Spiced gin
The trade-route bottle, and the one that argues hardest for the name on the label. Sweet vanilla and mandarin sit forward; cassia, ginger and allspice carry the warmth underneath; juniper holds the frame. Bold without being loud, and warm enough to hold its own against a heavy mixer.
Best served: Short, over one large cube, with ginger ale and a strip of orange peel.
